Moving ahead with His Excellency the President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa's vision 'Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour', Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited - (AASL) geared up to develop the international airports in Sri Lanka. By identifying the long-term delays and prioritizing the implementation of the BIA Terminal 2 construction project the groundbreaking ceremony of the new Terminal-2 of Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was ceremonially launched by Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and His Excellency Akira Sugiyama, the Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka on 18th November 2020.

Successful completion of this project will enable airport operations to be carried out in a more passenger-friendly manner. The new terminal will enable to create a pleasant travel experience both local and international travelers. The Terminal will be developed on the concepts such as eco airport and smart airport. The added facilities such as multi-storied car park, new airport lounges, gate lounges, connected multi-mode transport services etc. would create much more passenger convenience and experience
